Valery V. Tuchin received a MS in Radio-Physics and Electronics (1966), a PhD in Optics (1974), and a Doctor of Science in Laser Physics (1982) from Saratov State University. Currently he is a Professor and holds the Chair of Optics and Biophotonics of Saratov National Research State University. He is also a Director of the Research-Educational Institute of Optics and Biophotonics at SSU, Head of Laboratory on Laser Diagnostics of Technical and Living Systems, Inst. of Precise Mechanics and Control, RAS, and a supervisor of Interdisciplinary Lab on Biophotonics of National Research Tomsk State University. His research interests include biophotonics, tissue optics, laser medicine, tissue optical clearing, and nanobiophotonics. He has authored more than 400 peer-reviewed papers, handbooks, monographs, text-books, tutorials, and book chapters, holder of more than 50 patents. He is a fellow of SPIE and OSA, has been awarded Honored Science Worker of the Russia, SPIE Educator Award (2007), FiDiPro (ТЕКЕS, Finland)(2011-2014), Chime Bell Prize of Hubei Province (China)(2014), and Joseph W. Goodman Book Writing Award (OSA/SPIE) (2015). Professor Tuchin is the recipient of the 2016 NANQIANG Life Science Series Lectures Award of Xiamen University, China. He is providing a great publishing work as an editor-in-chief of the Journal of Biomedical Photonics & Engineering, associate editor-in-chief of Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences (JIOHS), deputy editor-in-chief of the Saratov University News - New series (Physics), topical editor of Journal of Biomedical Optics, associated editor of Frontiers of Optoelectronics (Springer), a member of the editorial board of journals: Quantum Electronics, Laser Medicine, and Physics in Medicine and Biology, a member of the editorial board of journals: Applied Nonlinear Dynamics, Journal of Biophotonics, Journal of X-Ray Science and Technology - Clinical Applications of Diagnosis and Therapeutics and a number of other editions. Professor Valery V. Tuchin was a main handling editor of some special issues of "Izvestiya VUZ. Applied Nonlinear Dynamics"
