Guidelines for Manuscript Submission

Guidelines for Manuscript Submission

Requirements for manuscripts for peer review

  • Authors should keep their papers to no longer than 20 pages and 8 figures (for scientific reviews 40 pages). Initially authors should submit to the editors by e-mail and@nonlin.sgu.ru a PDF file of the manuscript and give detailed information about each author and organizations where they work for correspondence (either a scan of the cover letter on a pre-printed form of the organization). In case of positive decision the rest of the document set is sent.
  • Formatting. The manuscript should be prepared on a standard A4 page, font size 12pt, 1.5 line spacing with a width of the working area of 16.5cm. Type in one of the standard serif fonts: Computer Modern, Times New Roman, Liberation Serif.
  • Graphics. The graphics in the manuscript (only black and white or grayscale) are inserted into the text in the place where they should preferably be located along with legends. Natural size of an image should match the size of the text field, preferably 8cm wide (half a page) or 16cm (whole page). The size of letters, numbers and symbols should allow unambiguous understanding (usually not less than 8pt). One graphics may contain several logically related fragments, denoted by Latin letters in brackets: (a), (b), (c), etc.
  • The title page should include:

a) title

b) initials and surnames of authors

c) names of organizations (without names of divisions), in which authors work, including full legal address and postal code

d) full authors contact information: e-mail, work phone and mobile phone numbers of each author

e) keywords

f) article summary, briefly describing the subject and main results of the study between 200 and 250 words

  • The manuscript should contain a bibliography (see references requirements). Authors should not include references that are not used in the text.
  • If at least one member of the team is involved in research or development work, which needs secrecy control, authors should provide an examination certificate on a pre-printed form of the organization where such works are carried out, about the possibility of publication. Note: if authors do not provide the certificate of examination it automatically means that the authors assume full responsibility for complying norms of secrecy and state secrets in the submitted manuscript.
  • Optionally, in the letter which is sent to submit the manuscript (but not in the manuscript itself) authors can specify from 1 to 4 potential reviewers who may be given the manuscript for revision and provide a justification for their choice. However, the Editorial Board can appoint the reviewer from list provided by authors or any other selected reviewers at its discretion. The following can not be specified as reviewers: work colleagues (employees of the same department, division, faculty, branch of research Institute), direct or indirect subordinates or managers, people with whom one of the authors has a significant number of recent collective publications.

Requirements for accepted manuscripts

  • The text of manuscripts should be executed in LaTeX macro package. It is recommended to use a sufficiently modern version of MiK TeX for Windows, TeX Live for Linux/UNIX systems, Mac Tex for Mac OS X. Authors should use the default style article. (Acceptance of manuscripts in a different format is only possible in agreement with the editors, it should be understood that the editors are not able to re-enter the long formulas and tables and can request authors to provide necessary materials).
  • Figures should be in separate files. Preferably in vector format like PDF or EPS. If it is impossible to provide figures in vector format they should be put into a raster format with a resolution of 300 dpi. Titles of figures should coincide with their numbers in the text, for example, fig_1.pdf.
  • Information about each of the authors (not more than half a page of text) in free form, if it is missing or significantly outdated. The information should contain:

a. date and year, place of birth

b. educational background, including academic degrees and titles

c. information about professional activities, including publications and research interests

d. national or industry awards, honorary degrees, membership in Russian and international academies and scientific societies

e. membership in editorial boards of journals

f. other significant information at the will of the author

  • At the end of the manuscript authors should specify the program name, grant number or project (one or more) within which the study was conducted.
