OPPONING THE THESIS: THROUGH LETTERS OF NORM TO THE PRINCIPLES OF OBJECTIVE EVALUATION

The authors establish a methodological relationship in the creativity of the competitor of the scientific degree and his opponent, revealing a single context that links: the renewal of the subject of research in the thesis, the provisions put forward for defense, the principles of their examination and assessment of the achievements of the candidate, the essence of formal requirements for revoking the opposition.

ON «THE LIFE» OF SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE

Review of the book «Meaningful scientific activity: On the life of knowledge in the form of scientific propositions» by Eduard A. Sosnin and Boris N. Poizner is given. Scientific work is considered as a system of goal-seeking activity. The construction of scientific propositions is discussed.

 

ALBERT EINSTEIN AND PITIRIM SOROKIN: HISTORY OF DISSERTATION DEFENCES

The difference between procedures of receiving scientific degrees in Europe and Russia is demonstrated by means of comparison of thesis defences by Nobel laureate Albert Einstein (1876–1955) in Zurich University (1905) and outstanding Russian/American sociologist Pitirim Sorokin (1889–1968) in Peterburg University (1922).
